Giving government that power would effectively be tantamount to book burning.

If government didn't like a film, an episode of a TV show, the entire TV show, a book, a newspaper, a website, any music, any art, it would simply use Eminent Domain to seize it and pull it from the Market.

Not only does that equate to book burning, it smacks of Socialism, where government controls and/or owns all assets and means of production, in addition to wholesale State-sponsored censorship.

Likewise, there is neither a good nor logical reason to use Eminent Domain for patents.

Allowing government to remove technology it doesn't like is very Stalinistic.

Even the govt wouldn't be able to afford to use ID as you describe so long as they have to pay out enough to do it.

Why we might need to ID a patent- suppose an alternative method of generating cheap/clean energy were developed and immediately bought up and suppressed by big oil and/or the carbon exchange partners so as to protect their investments and market monopoly. Patent laws would immediately hecome a tool of oppression. With ID we could force a govt anullment of the patent, pay them out a few billion and recoup the losses quite quickly with a global energy revolution.

Amazon is already using its data on sales to steal designs from it's most successful business partners. Imagine how rich Bezos would be if he could ignore patents altogether?

Inventors would wake up and be able to buy 10 of their product online with Free Shipping (with Amazon Prime) before they could even get a contract to have their idea produced.
