The amount of hypocrisy is astonishing. I remember republicans berated the hell out of Dems for getting mad after the 2000 election (which they had perfect cause to be mad over), and the 2004 election. They said suck it up crybabies, you will get another try in 4 years.

Today Republicans are (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)ing so hard that some are threatening to secede. Typical....

From the Soviet Constitution of 1977:

Article 70. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is an integral, federal, multinational state formed on the principle of socialist federalism as a result of the free self-determination of nations and the voluntary association of equal Soviet Socialist Republics.
The USSR embodies the state unity of the Soviet people and draws all its nations and nationalities together for the purpose of jointly building communism.

Article 71. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics unites:
the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic
    the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic,
    the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic,
    the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic,
    the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic,
    the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic,
    the Azerbeijan Soviet Socialist Republic,
    the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic,
    the Moldovian Soviet Socialist Republic,
    the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic,
    the Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic,
    the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic,
    the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic,
    the Turkmen Soviet Socialist Republic,
    the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic.

Article 72. Each Union Republic shall retain the right freely to secede from the USSR.

What is an "O-traitor"? Is this some new slang for people who refer to our current commander in chief in a disloyal, and derogatory fashion?

I bet these are the same people who used to blow a gasket when CNN referred to Shrub as "Mr. Bush" instead of "President Bush." Consistency, it's a wonderful thing.

They didnt seem to mind during Katrina or the internment of the Japanese Americans.. You give more credit to many in the military or people in general that have no clue about the Constitution.

The original union was a compact of states, not an indissoluble union. There's nothing that says a state can't leave the union, and given the spirit of the founders I'm inclined to think this was intended.

But these technicalities don't really matter, the US needs a constitutional convention to decide this and other matters. The constitution has been warped to such a degree that you can make an argument for it saying literally anything. It's time for a convention to get together and decide the future of the union - or this constitutional grey area will continue.

Personally I think states should be able to secede at will - although they will need a convincing majority in their home state.

Nope, because there is no such thing as us running out of made up money and the nation debt does matter, the solvency of the national debt doesn't matter. Nice try though. It's amazing how you guys can't comprehend what I'm saying. It's not rocket science. But, you are obviously a little sad right now, so I won't kick a dog when it's down.

If you can explain how America can run out of made up money I will give you $1,000,000.

What's sad, is you see fit to use force against people who would no longer wish to be apart of the United States. How barbaric.

On a side note......Texas isn't leaving the Union.

It's funny. I bet at least half the people saying it's ok for Texas to secede probably supported the Iraq War because it was in the US's interests.

    Perfectly said.

The federal government should only be regulating actions between states anyway. The vast differences in Federal tax income/spending in each state indicate that they are in effect taking from certain states and giving to others. This shouldn't happen.

And the Iraq war has to do with a state leaving the union how?

Much prefer, if just the Conservatives occupying Texas would defect to some other country, leaving the land to be redeveloped for a more useful purpose that benefits the whole of the USA. If Texas could be designated as the storage site for nuclear waste water, then perhaps Nuclear energy could be a viable alternative again.

Yes, and Texas will get this oil to China and India by means of... Um...

Seriously, this whole "secession" thing is a right-wing fantasy. You people have been stuck in the echo chamber so long that you've forgotten that the vast majority of people don't think like you. I recommend a hefty dose of reality.

Some people went back to living in fantasy land again? Obama wins and it seems to have had an adverse affect on some "conservatives" and it made them become even dumber.

Time to come back to reality folks.

I am unaware of any constitutional prohibition against a state leaving the union. Could you please point me to the relevant constitutional language on this?

    FYI, do your homework.
    http://www.businessinsider.com/texas-budget-shortfall-2011-1

The Texas budget is expected to run a $27 billion two-year budget shortfall according to just-released state estimates.
That's worse than the $25 billion that Paul Krugman cited last week when he gleefully noted that a GOP bastion was facing deficit problems

Another clueless yahoo. The TX national guard is not autonomous. FYI, TX is in debt, by $27B, get real, get with reality.

I assure you, take up arms against the US, and you will never be that unhappy. :)
