Why? Since when do you determine what they should do? Typical liberal. Even see someone killed by an elephant? Just another poor farmer killed so you can feel good. Tough, get over it.

Indeed. Mdaybe the wonderful elephants will take the hunters head and use it as THEIR trophy.

There is simply NO rational reason for killing, hunting these majestic creatures Trophy hunting is just the lowest form of activity. It reduces humanity to a very primitive state. There is no call for it no excuse for it......

If KILLING gives one pleasure ........then they should reserve a couch at their psychiatrists office.

Whoever or whatever is to blame, it really is a head-scratcher. What compelling reason could there be for allowing these imports?

Plus, with elephants, we're talking about animals that reproduce slowly and have a hard time coping with hunting and poaching. Can't these goons make do with less endangered animals?

Actually you are the liberal. No respect for Gods order of things. You believe you have rights to go around and kill the animals on the planet for trophies and sport.

Indeed........but these"goons" might want to examine WHY they have this need to KILL?? There is plenty of food at the grocery store.

This decision of Trumps goes well beyond anything that is close to being civilized. All it does is singnal that it is ok for rich humans to use these specialspecies as killing targets and for pleasreu.

IF an elephant is killed in self defense........(REAL SELF DEFENSE not some made up story ) then that is a different stroy........But pleasrue hunting........ are here not enough things to amuse these rich kids as it is??

anyhow......the blow back is coming in fast and furious (according to CNN and other news outlets._

Well you can hunt buff. They're almost as dangerous and loads of fun. I always preferred hunting the dagga boys vs herd buff. Less of a chance of making a mistake but much harder hunting. You always have to count the dagga's and make sure you don't lose one who may slip back on your trail.

To be specific, I had trophy-hunters in mind when I referred those goons. Hunters interested in food will probably be content to bag deer or something similar.

I expect that they go after elephants to profit from what parts of them they can sell. No idea whether that includes selling or personally consuming the meat.

Whether they eat the elephants or not....is not even the issue. the issue is KILLING them at all.

There is NO need or rational reason for trophy hunting. NONE!..except to brag about their kill.......and that just speaks to the barbarism of that conduct. Is there no respect for magnificent wildlife.??

Poachers are bad enough without american rich folks dong the trophy hunting........

Oh boohoo, those bad Bambi and Dumbo killers. You most likely don't live within several thousand miles from wild elephants. You don't have to worry about an over population of them coming into your village and eating your crops. You don't have to worry about the elephants starving because of over population. Those people can't afford to have elephants destroying their food supply, they can't run to the corner grocery store and buy what they need. Those villagers depend on all the big money these big game hunters spend and they get the meat and much of the rest, so it doesn't go to waste. As long as the local government approves the hunt, I see no reason not to bring a trophy head home. Trophy hunting isn't for me, but it beats having poachers or villagers killing the elephants.

A trophy head with long ivory tusks? How about leaving the ivory with the locals and they can take a picture of the big bawana to hang on his trophy wall.

What harm does bringing the head of a dead animal that was legally hunted and part of a conservation plan bring?

I think most of the people complaining about this just want to attack Trump. It is impossible to use reason with unreasonable people.

    I will try one though.

Regulated hunts so very little to damage the species as a whole and the funds that are brought in by these many thousands of dollars hunts go towards conservation efforts, which includes game wardens that try to combat poaching.

Tell me what you think is better. Once a year hunts that kill 10, or no hunts that lead to 50 being killed by poachers?

Shooting an elephant would be like shooting Cecil the lion, from my perspective.
The bad publicity engendered by that is surely a deterrent for an elephant hunter.
How effective is Zimbabwe's elephant conservation program?

The article reads to me two total per year for the US. What other countries do is no concern to me.

If it means that much then make it a fair fight and go hunt it with a spear or bone arrow. At least give the elephant the opportunity to kill the hunter and let them drag the body off to show the rest of the tribe as they body slam them to the ground and stomp their a**.

There is no overpopulation. The population collapsed by 30% within the last 10 years. The animal is on the brink of extinction. What other overpopulated animals do you want to hunt? Panda bears, Amur Tigers and Snow Leopards?
