Who Will Hold Trump Accountable?

Can you give three examples of this because I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Will you continue to hold him accountable if he takes action to fulfill campaign promises but his actions fail? For example, he issued an EO to stop immigration, but it failed. He has issued an EO to take steps toward building the wall, but what if the wall does not get built? He says he's asking for a plan to defeat ISIS (actually, during the campaign he said he already had a plan to defeat ISIS, but it was a secret... but whatever). If his plan only makes matters worse, only leads to more terrorist attacks against U.S. citizens, will you hold him accountable for that?

Wow, I hope that was a type-o. The Executive branch enforces the laws, the Judiciary interprets the law and ensures it does not violate the Constitution. The Judiciary determines when the Executive branch is acting unconstitutionally, not the other way around!

I'm not sure what makes you think that. Every time Trump is criticized he accuses his critics of being nasty, he calls them names, he says they are "fake news." That is exactly what I'd expect from someone who is afraid of criticism.

I respect that. What worries me, and many other conservatives, is that his personality is a reflection of his true character - ethically, intellectually, and emotionally. That means the "job" that he gets done will be self-serving, but he will go on manipulating the perception of what he's done. He has never been "the best" at anything, ever, in his whole life... but he's convinced people that he is. This is among the most dangerous kind of leader any country can have.

You really don't think a Congress controlled by the opposition party would not have held Clinton accountable? Why not? They blocked Obama from doing 80% of what he wanted to do.

Nope. I like non-partisan stuff, which is hard to find but not impossible. I would like to see the return of moderate America.

At the moment we have a president who tells the other guy to "sit down and shut up." That, in my opinion, is a major problem.

The press always opposes authoritarian types and endorses the freedom-of-movement types. That isn't an "agenda," it goes hand-in-hand with the freedom of speech.

I'm not concerned, my point is that they are so happy they get to pass their agenda the last thing they want to do is look into Trump's actions, behavior, or ethics. They just want him to sign every bill that lands on his desk - and he will. That was the deal.

The judiciary smacked down some of Obama's immigration moves, too, but he didn't go and blame them for the country's future immigration problems.

What should they have been more skeptical about w/r/t Obama?

Just off the top of my head:

-Trump is falling behind in the cabinet selection process (when he was ahead of Obama's pace)
-The MLK bust that wasn't removed
-The muslim ban that is not muslim as 95% of the world's muslim population is not affected while non-muslims from those countries are
-The Trump's "Russian ties".... with tiny "no evidence of wrongdoing" disclaimer
-Trump has not condemned David Duke (after dozens of Trump's condemnations)

But they don't just resort to outright lies, they are too smart for that.... They lie by omission, they distort facts, they present controversies in the most unfavorable to Trump light, they twist words, manipulate facts, manipulate data, pollute the coverage with anti-Trump opinions without giving Trump and his supporters equal representation... They think they are clever but they are not fooling anyone... Neither are you ;).

My point was that if the Democrats had the majority, and Hillary had been elected, they never would have held her accountable. Just look at their track record for why I think that. And yet, the OP suggests that the Republicans and Trump's supporters should hold him accountable. I don't see the consistency.

Incidentally, Rep. Darrel Issa (R) just called for a special prosecutor to look into the Trump campaign - Russia connection. Democrats never would have done that if Hillary had been elected and her campaign was suspected of something wrong. Never.

Can you see the similarities between the ridiculous "birthers" and the folks who claim Trump is a Putín-installed puppet?
As they note in Reason, "fear makes a lame opposition".

A problem that we have all played a part in creating. With a little luck Trump might be the enema we all need.

Care to be specific. Obama put nothing in place to prevent greed.

???? No one has a problem with Hillary talking about Yoga and her daughters wedding, OR ANY unclassified material on an unsecured system. It was her using the unsecured system for CLASSIFIED material that was an issue. Trump doesn't tweet classified material.

    I share your concern.

I believe that Trump's ego will be his downfall. He has humiliated SOooo many - the Bushes, Romney, McCain, and while I do not hold out any hope that the GOP will suddenly get morals or really care about the constitution, I do trust that they, as individuals, want revenge. I only hope there is some way that the crash takes Pence with him - I think perhaps the Russia link could do it - if the facts can ever get out - If Flynn did nothing wrong, why would he have lied to Pence? If Flynn did nothing wrong, why did Pence have to deny that Flynn spoke with Russia? The odor is very strong.....

Give the man his 100 days, for God's sake.
It' s not easy to drain the liberal swamp in one month. I'd say it's more like cleaning the Augean stables.

Obama continually called upon Congress to pass laws to address the nation's problems, but when they did not he took action within the limited authority he had as president. Trump came in and didn't even give Congress a chance to pass laws before issuing executive orders that were quickly struck down as unconstitutional. In the end, I believe Obama pushed the envelope too far, too, but he never tried to discredit the other branches of the government. Where Obama told them to do their job, Trump tells them to sit down and shut up.

I would say a select few created the Trump problem and now the rest of us have to suffer through it.

The people who don't like Trump or his policies are in the majority. And they've been energized as never before since the Vietnam War protests. My hope is that we will take back control of the Senate in 2018 and make significant inroads into taking back the House. That would be a major victory.

I'd also like to see the anger toward Trump and the Republicans translate itself into some Democratic victories in the state houses and governorships.

I don't have much hope for the people who make up the hard core of Trump's support. They've bought into the Trump cult of personality all the way, and they get their news from Fox and the likes of Limbaugh. So no matter what bad news comes out about Trump, they simply dismiss it as "fake news." It seems that we have a more or less permanent "stupid class" in this country.

No disagreement there, but that isn't the situation we're in.

Not really. I mean, yes, ideally the Congress should hold the president to ethical standards regardless of what party he is with. But I wasn't arguing they should, only that we know they won't. Hence the question who will? I do think his supporters will hold him accountable if they are willing to challenge his claims when he says what a great job he's done.

I agree probably 99%. I was surprised that Issa called for this special prosecutor, and I hope he's doing it with genuine motives (i.e., to get at the truth and not simply to undermine the president or to clear him). Let the facts speak for themselves.

    Misrepresent much?
ONE of Trump EOs was struck by a circuit court, pending judicial review.
This EO was issued under the specific power given to the President by an act of Congress.

Of all the fear that is being displayed over Trump i am coming to realize that much of it, perhaps even most of it is that he may actually do good for the country.

Well, I must say, your statement surprised me---No, I have to admit, there is nothing that can entirely prevent greed, but if you take away the temptation, with regulations & law------
-However, if you were to go read the Commission report-You could have seen where the "Greed" came in---The 2007 crash never needed to happen---
What specifically did OBAMA do to prevent greed---Well, Dodd/Frank was a good start, put regulations or "firewalls" back in place ----
If, you don't understand why there are regulations & laws that prevent people from taking advantage of the system, then, you are just asking to be taken advantage of----

He has already brought public discourse to a new low, with adults shouting at each other in town hall meetings, calling each other names, and repeating other Trump antics from his lowbrow campaign. From a national security standpoint, Russia has shown that it considers the Trump administration militarily weak. The only positive impact I anticipate is infrastructure improvement, something Obama had been trying to do for years but the Republican Congress refused to fund. Now they get to fund it and take all credit for it, so good for them, but it's a clear reminder of how cynical politics are.

Seems to me the people doing the yelling -- that is, liberal protestors - are responsible for this new low.
No one forces them to do this - its their choice.

You cannot show this to be true.
