Public discourse was already sinking and going to sink further regardless of who won the election. Only difference is who is crying and who is gloating.

It isn't about who's crying or who's gloating, it's about how are people discussing the issues. Trump discusses them by calling people names and casting blame. I don't think we've had a president in history who was so quick to blame other people for his own problems - and he hasn't even been in office 100 days yet! Wait until some of his initiatives fail or actually result in malevolent effects on national security or the economy. Will Trump take ownership of his mistakes? Of course not! He has demonstrated clearly that is not in his vocabulary. He will blame and point fingers for the next four years, and that type of petty scapegoating will be adopted by other national, state, and local politicians who wish to frame themselves after this guy. He may have been a successful candidate, but he's a failure of an adult.

They are modeling their behavior off Trump's supporters at his rallies and throughout the campaign. Sure they're responsible for choosing how to behave, but Trump and his supporters are responsible for making it now socially acceptable and promoting it as a "winning" strategy. It's a step backward in terms of social and democratic maturity.

I can show that we never had a Russian spy ship blatantly cruising up and down our coast until Trump was in office. I don't know what message you think that sends. When Russian fighters buzzed a U.S. warship in the Black Sea back in April, anti-Obamans were all over this board talking about how weak Obama was for letting that happen - but we were sailing a U.S. warship in Russia's back yard! Here we are a month into Trump's presidency and Russian fighters are still buzzing U.S. warships in the Black Sea and Russia is sailing a spy ship in our back yard! It looks to me like Russia has no respect for us right now.

Virtually every problem faced by the entirety of the Obama Administration was blamed on GWB, from the very first day; the failures of the Obama administration to effectively deal with these problems was blamed on the depth of same.

Oooh - a prediction. Tell us about Hillary's landslide victory.

    Tell us:
What can Trump do for you to rate him as a success?

Trump is to blame for the willfully petulant behavior of Democrats?
    :roflol:
Yours is a response of unmitigated partisan desperation.

    See above.

Maybe if the MSM had an ounce of honesty in their reporting people would listen but when every single thing Trump does or says is met with the massive onslaught of lies and fake news, the American people can't believe a single thing they say. The left built that.

"Unfortunately, though, the overkill is so excessive that they run the risk of invalidating themselves so early in Trump's term that when a truly important issue arises no one will be listening. At all."

Trump is still using Clausewitz so, yes, the Democrats are playing right into Trump's playbook. Meanwhile, their corporate money donations will start to dry up because they have very little leverage in what they can accomplish.

And as long as Trump keeps attacking the media, he will neutralize the whole lot of them.

Trump's speech showed that a lot of our objectives are shared.

The issue is going to be in the approach.

For example, Trump called for health care savings accounts, tax deductions and selling insurance across state lines as his solution for health care costs.

However, tax cuts and special purpose savings accounts is how we send money to those who have enough income to have extra cash laying around (or tax bills so large that they could offset health care costs). These methods help those who don't have a problem today, while weighting ovrer all taxes more toward those who can't take advantage of these special options - since they help those with high incomes to avoid paying as much tax.

Also, we already have a number of states that allow selling insurance across state lines. But, insurance companies have shown interest in doing that.

And, of course, there is the fact that Republicans still don't have any idea of how to make good on Trump's promise of covering everyone who is covered today.

And, his statement about not knowing that health care is complicated shows a HUGE deficit on his part in even understanding the issue.

So, yes, everybody could clap at many of Trump's health care GOALS.

But, the "how to" is as PHONY AS COULD BE.

Corporate donations have been pretty much equally divided between parties for some time now.

And, no, the media aren't going to be "neutralized" in the way you are suggesting - the key media are already pretty much neutral.

You haven't come up with anything where the media could be accused of being over the top.

The opposition party is also just terrible and not really in a place to condemn Trump. They ran Hillary, after all, and continue to be out of touch with reality and the people they claim to represent and work for.

The media are in somewhat better shape, but then they've also been pretty biased of late. In doing so, they've damaged their own credibility, and now Trump is capitalizing on that to marginalize them and get away with his lies and nonsense. I hope the media only improve in their objectivity and impartiality going forward. That needs to happen regardless, and with Trump where he is, when he screws up badly enough for long enough, the media will still be there and will hopefully be vindicated in the eyes of Trump's current cultists. They will hopefully see just who is lying and who is not. The truth will win out in the end, so the media had better stick to it, or else they really will deserve to crumble. However, if they go, I think the nation takes a serious blow also. Having a bunch of propaganda outlets instead of an honest media would herald the end of our democracy, no question, because a democracy can't survive on fantasy and ideology. It needs to be based in reality. Voters need to be informed and responsible, and that means having an honest, impartial media to keep them informed. Trump's attacks on the media won't work if they do not lower themselves to his level of dishonesty and deceptiveness.

As for the judiciary, good question. I don't want that buffoon appointing incompetent justices, which unfortunately he's liable to do. He's not fit to assess what makes a judge qualified or not, just as he's not fit to do so much else in the job he now has. That is why he is such a danger - he can do great damage in that position and, given his history and personality, it seems likely that he will.

There's no metric for that. None at all. It's pure lunacy. You could make up anything.

Trump is no better than President Skroob.

By making America great again, we're upping all America's stats. Not just 1. If the majority of American stats show a gain, and like global warming, a consensus of Americans agree America is great again, then America is great again.

So, I would like to address one issue you stated----Health Savings Accounts---Did trump explain how these accounts work? I didn't watch the speech last night----But, that being said; I have a health savings account---if trump is advocating these accounts as they stand right now,you have to have at "least" $10,000 to open a HSA--then when we first got the account -it was a $10,000 deductible with 100% after deductible is paid---with OBAMACARE the deductible went down to $6,000 with 100% after deductible was paid---So, I would love it, if everyone could have a HSA,but unless trump can bring down considerably the amount to open such an account--he is misleading & not being honest with the American people ----not many people have $10,000 unless your employer pays for it let alone a $10,000 or $6,000 deductibe---

I have the same HSA since 2006. I contribute pre-tax money with an employer - the state of OH - match and I take it out as I need it.
    No deductible, no minimum amount.

Wish we had the no deductible here in Nevada--But, if OBAMACARE is repealed & it goes back up to a $10,000 deductible or more, we are back to the use it or lose it Insurance plans out there---
But, my point was,HSA sure sounds good, but, they are expensive to get into & millions would find that out---if this is what tyrump is advocating, he needs to be upfront with the American people----

America is great right now. And, our stats are going up right now.

Your post makes no sense at all. It's pure partisan pap.

I don't think you're talking about the same HSA that I am, or the HSA Trump refers to.

I think you're talking about a low-cost insurance option that covers everything after a certain point, with the option to add $ to an account that can be spent to covert the deductible.

We had this option -- it was free, with a $6k pr person yearly deductible, 100% coverage for everything after. These plans are oriented towards young health people, sans kinder, who really only need coverage for a catastrophic event. If you're older, have health issue or kids, this is not the insurance for you.

Right, Trump is Trump so quit crying about what you already knew. Blaming others is the great American pastime. We all do it, all presidents i have known did it. HOPE AND CHANGE, we have heard that for how long now? Well the last several regimes have driven this bus so far in the ditch we have finally gotten what was promised, what everyone has said we needed. I don't like him either but i sure as hell am not gonna cheer for him to fail. As the saying goes ... careful what you wish for.

By Bush critics and Democrats in general, but not by President Obama himself. Trump has led the charge in the blame game. It's pathetic.

For me it's simple because I understand Trump is not the one advancing any policy or agenda - that's all coming from the GOP, so whether it's a success or a failure the praise or blame should go to them. Trump is only a figurehead, but a poor one at that. For me he will be a success if he publicly admits that he has been wrong to resort to name-calling to engage his political opponents, he's wrong to try and turn the public against a free press, and he's wrong to use Twitter like a middle-schooler; then if he can commit to treating the remainder of his presidency with dignity, respect, and integrity, I would say he could be successful.

That's funny given that Obama-haters blamed him for exasperating the racial divide in this country simply because he said if he had a son he'd look like Trayvon Martin. So if Obama expresses empathy for a murder victim, he's responsible for racial conflict; but when Trump and his supporters encourage name-calling and shouting people down and threatening people, you let them off the hook? That is beyond partisan.

Nothing in your post addressed the reality of Russia blatantly sailing an intelligence vessel up and down our East Coast. I can understand why you're afraid to talk about it.

    Wait...
You REALLY think The Obama never blamed the Bush administration of the issues He had the face, the difficulties He had in addressing them, and His failures to do so?
    Really?

    I see.
For you, policy is irrelevant, style is everything. Enough said.
    I'm kinda sorry I asked.

Why shouldn't we cheer for him to fail? After all, this is the guy who used much of his celebrity deriding President Obama and accusing him of being a foreigner. Trump's behavior is embarrassing and not worthy of the honor that goes with living in the White House. I believe America can succeed despite him - that is, Trump's failure does not necessarily mean America's failure. I would like all of America to see him for the self-serving blowhard that he is, and to see that we can do better than him. I find it discouraging that so many Americans have turned to such a jerk to be their hero. The more successful he is as president, the more jerks we're sure to see take office. That's how countries in Central Africa operate. No thank you.
