Seriously kilgram I don't know where you get this crap about laws permitting only certain sex positions and banning the kissing of women's breasts.

 

Yes, I would urge caution. The way this is worded may just be a chimera to bring a rebellion about so they can declare a national emergency to actually take power. They do want as much confusion as possible. This would be too blatant and open for even them. Let's not get carried away.

 

I was deluded when I came on this site awhile back hoping some political discussions might help me form opinions about the policies being enacted by this administration and the ones proposed by the opposition candidates. Instead I find more and more balderdash like this where people reference nominal actions then shoot off about how it's a "power grab," "fascism," "Marxism," and now you're warning of a coming "police state." I used to consider myself conservative but now that term has been corrupted and become synonymous with ignorant, paranoid, and alarmist. So far all I've learned on this site is that right-wingers make stuff up, refuse to engage in actual discussion about it, and label anyone who challenges them as... deluded.

I remain an independent, but have yet to see even the slightest sensible argument why I should not vote to keep Obama another four years.

Fair enough, my apologies! But the thread was started by someone who's "About Me" page states "My goal is to expose progressives as the Marxists they are." So I was pretty quick to lump anyone not calling BS on this post as also-right-wing. And most of the folks who did post with a more (in my view) sensible understanding of the EO seem to be left-leaning.

You can't blame them for everything; sheeple can't shear themselves. If you do a search, you can see that this is making the run on all the far right-wing propaganda sites. Since "conservatives" apparently have lost any capacity for logical thought and/or the ability to discern fact from regurgitated partisan tripe, you can blame them for being willfully and woefully ignorant but pity them for the poor naked sheeple that they are.

I'm willing to bet that none of those sites bothered mention that this isn't anything new but just a reaffirmation of already legislated contingencies.

Isn't it amazing the many ways that power can be amassed in the name of national defense? Aren't you glad we have ever vigilant bureaucrats with We-The-People's best interests always in mind? The weird thing is, there are, no doubt, many "potential" scenarios that would justify such government-corporate defense abilities and we all would look back and be thankful that such preparatory measures had been devised and taken.

But reality forces me to never trust a Democrat - especially one that came out of that notorious cesspool of corruption known as "Chicago politics". Also, thanks to Bush's creation of that "Homeland Security" monster, with its manifold threat to liberty, I never trust a Republican either. So knowing what these politicians are really interested in, and it's anything but our national defense, I really find it impossible to give this particular "executive order" the benefit of the doubt.

FEMA is prepared to take over the functioning of our government, go as dictatorial as they need to to "preserve order," and they have been thusly prepared for decades. And people are just now getting worried about Executive Orders?

But then again, I guess the financial destruction of the US only recently became a real possibility, so I guess I should cut them some slack.

The U.S. is a Constitutional Republic, for a reason.

 

Presidential Orders have walked that fine line for quite some time...

But I believe the Constitutionality of Obama's Presidency itself needs to be determined by the SCOTUS before we can look at any of his actions as President.

The interesting thing about the Order is that they would have to attempt to use some of what is ordered in order to have it challenged in Court, and as far as I know that has yet to happen.
