"Under God"... should be removed from the "Pledge"

I would be for removing it completely. The only reason it exists is because the Union won the civil war and wanted to rub it in everybody's face!

 

I'm not a lawyer or a Constitutional expert; but to me if a question of freedom is raised... we should tend to default to options or choices, rather that rigid restrictions.

In the case of the "Pledge", I cannot see how removing references to religious aspects or including something for unbelievers would be unjust.

 

It should be removed as it is unfair to expect non religious students to say those words.

Cosmos might be a recent word. I highly doubt nature is all that recent.

No one really knows what the idea of god was originally meant to intend. The idea has probably been around for 10s of thousands of years. Some native american tribes thought it was a turtle, and the earth was the turtles shell.

As for the main monotheistic religions, their focus on divinity and descriptions of a self aware and manipulating god begs to differ.

If the word god was meant to mean the sum of everything, it hasn't been that way for a few thousand years at least.

 

No-that's not what 'freedom of religion' means. It means that one is free to pick any religion they want or none at all-- and that the govt will not force anyone to worship or choose a mandatory religion for its citizens. But read any historical book on the founding of our country and you'll know that it was always based on the belief in a higher being. It's exactly why there are so many references to God on our monuments, money, and on almost all the founding documents you look at when you tour D.C.
In fact, most of our ancestors came here seeking freedom of religion because they had been persecuted for centuries for their religious beliefs.
For those who are trying to wipe out our country's history and foundation-- it will never happen!

 

From reading alot and just being alive i know thats what its supposed to mean. As a part of it all i feel it in my very being.

some religions have corrupted themself and teach false doctorines. Those are often for power and men who wish to elevate themselves to god.

but religion is not god.

is faced with the prospect that maybe, just maybe, the ACLU and the
out-of-control federal courts are wrong!

That doesn't mean it is (necessarily) good, right or truly just that is so.

 

I could care less if "in god we trust" was on our money, or "under god" was in our pledge. Either way, its not important. I guess I have more important things to worry about.

Are we all not Americans? I'm so sick of both, the Republicans and Democrats. Don't you see we are all in it together. These people that we put in control of our beatiful country are all rich, don't give a crap polititions that don't understand how the stress of not being able to pay the next bill can do to a man. Come on people.. We watch the news, hear the complaints nothing changes. WE HAVE TO COME TOGERTHER. We all think differently, but it's about prosperity, wake up America. We all deserve to be broke and homeless if we lose a country this great that millions of people died for, Yes all of our relatives together dies for us to have these stupid discussions.

Pushing 'religion' in Public Schools, is either just or it isn't.

It is good that this went to court.

 

Hopefully one day people will realize religion is bull(*)(*)(*)(*) and reject it in masses. Fact is any republican who uses religion as his basis for "morals" is un-american and boardering on treason.
